Description
For your consideration, a very fine and rare pair of sculptural candleholders made by Hutschenreuther at Selb around 1935. In fine blanc de chine porcelain with gilt accents, each double holder features a winged cupid or putti standing on a gilt pedestal. They appear to be running, with their windblown hair and an exhilarated smile on their faces, and are holding a gilded flower cup in each hand, which holds a candle. Their bodies are chubby and they are really quite adorable. The sculptures are by the famous artist, Karl Tutter, and each is signed in the clay on the base. From the Art Deco period of the 20's and 30's, they both retain their original paper label, along with the Hutschenreuter Art Department mark, Kunstabteilung. These are quite rare. Each measures about 5.5" across, about 6"front to back, and stand about 6.75"tall.
Both are in perfect condition. exceptionally nice. The candle cups are very clean, their wings are complete and intact, there is no gilt rub and no damage on eaither piece.
